What Happened to Kirby Electric of Rockville?
Sadly, on March 20, 2017 Clifford Kirby, Master Electrician and co-owner of Kirby Electric, passed away due to a medical condition. Montgomery County requires a master electrician to operate an electrical business. Without Cliff and his license, Kirby Electric could no longer operate. After providing electrical services to Montgomery County for 20 years, on April 28, 2017 Kirby Electric permanently closed.
Is Cory Electric and Kirby Electric the same company?
The simple answer is no. Kirby Electric of Rockville operated under the Master Electrician license and electrical business license of Clifford Kirby. Cory Electric LLC is operating under the Master Electricians license and electrical business license of Cory Gray. They are two separate companies. However, from the perspective of the customer, it’s the same Cory coming into your home, providing the quality, professional electrical services you have known for years.
Who is Cory Gray?
I am a native of Montgomery County. I grew up in Silver Spring and graduated from Blair High School. After high school I took electrical and construction classes at Montgomery College. In July of 1999, I started with Kirby Electric as an apprentice electrician, working side-by-side with Cliff on jobs. In 2004, I got my Journeyman’s electrician license and continued to work for Kirby Electric until the business ended in the spring of 2017 with Cliff's death.
In the months that followed, his wife, other employees and I completed all the jobs that Cliff contracted before his death in order to fulfill his customers needs. During that time, new work requests from previous customers continued to come it. It made me realize that I did not want to leave his customers without a reliable electrician to meet their needs.
After putting it off for nearly half a decade, I took and passed the Montgomery County exam for a Master Electricians license so I could establish my own company, Cory Electric LLC. Since that time, I have been serving where Cliff and Kirby Electric left off. In Cliff's honor, I have retained on my web site the Lightning Bolt logo he used as part of his company logo.
